Shelton, CT – Feb. 9, 2010 – Tomra of North America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tomra Systems ASA (TOMRA) and leading global provider of advanced recycling solutions, today announced that the Dunkin’ Donuts Center – a SMG Managed Facility in Providence, R.I. that hosts sporting events, major concerts and other large entertainment attractions – has placed two UNO reverse vending machines in their facility to enhance its recycling efforts. As part of this recycling initiative, the Dunkin’ Donuts Center is collaborating with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Providence, a division on Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc., which will sponsor the UNO machines, providing four-color wraps on the machines to promote and advertise Coca-Cola’s recycling message and products.
“Many of today’s top performers are insisting that venues have sustainability and recycling programs, and are only willing to appear at arenas that make a serious effort to provide event-goers with high-quality recycling. The UNO reverse vending machines (RVMs) are installed in our food courts, providing the public with a clean, easy way to dispose of their glass, plastic and aluminum beverage containers responsibly,” said Larry Lepore of the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. “Each machine, which is about the size of a conventional drinks vending machine, can collect, sort and store up to 500 beverage containers, greatly simplifying our facility’s recycling and trash removal logistics. The RVMs will save the facility $1400 in trash haulage costs monthly.”
The Dunk is offering prizes to build greater incentives for its patrons to recycle. Every 100 transactions, a lucky recycler will win complimentary tickets to upcoming events or other prizes.
“Interest in using automated recycling machines at various public facilities is growing, and the two UNO machines installed at the food courts in the Dunkin’ Donuts Center are a good example why. The UNO reverse vending machine is easy to install and maintain, adds greater incentive to recycle, and can be effectively tied in to promotional activities, which can offset some of the machine’s operating costs,” said Warren Stoll, VP Marketing and Business Development at Tomra North America. “The UNO machine has no special electrical requirements to run, so it’s an easy addition to any number of different venues, including sports arenas, hospitals, universities, parks and gas stations.”
